K Rad

by Jason Birchmeier
K Rad make electronica that purposefully defies categorization, constructed quickly by the group in its North Chicago apartment on a variety of computers. Group members Mark Hardy, Chris Grabowski, and Joe Hahn built their audience on the Internet (www.padk-rad.com), where they released over a dozen CD-Rs before Pravda Records released their first official album, Deli Mood Spot, in 2002. Like K Rad's many preceding CD-R releases, the album offered a variety of songs intended for headphone listening, not dancing. Influenced by, and compared to, such IDM stalwarts as Aphex Twin and µ-ziq, K Rad spawned a cult following in Chicago, where the group performed live at several clubs and shows. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
