An important Spanish pianist and composer of solo piano music (Suite Iberia, 1906) and opera music (Pepita Jimenez, 1896). Albeniz was a precocious, self-taught, and instinctive musician, a stowaway who toured the world in his youth. He wrote with Moorish rhythms, an Andalusian sense of harmony, and ornate decoration. Iberia is the poetic height of southern Spanish music and dance forms. ~ Blue Gene Tyranny, All Music Guide
