Third Electric's Andreas Bolz doubled up his surname for this solo project, which since 1997 has grown to three releases of notably high-quality, innovative new-school electro. Comparitively more uptempo and energetic than his work with Gregor Lutterman as Third Electric, Bolz's solo work under his own name pairs complex, often oddly syncopated rhythms with bold basslines and lively electronics and synth arpeggiation. Bolzbolz's debut EP, 32nd Lesson, appeared on the American label Ersatz Audio, and contained the stripped-down floor-rocker "Music" (previously available only on CD). That track was also the basis for his first EP on Lutterman's Electrocord sublabel, World Electric; "Music Remixes" contained reworkings by Ersatz's Adam Lee Miller (as Plasma Co.) and by Bolzbolz himself. A second EP, Envelope Power, appeared through World Electric in early 1999, and remains some of the finest new-school German electro ever released, a near-perfect mixture of floor-ready rhythms and head-scratching songwriting. In addition to his Bolzbolz and Third Electric work, Bolz also records for Electrocord under the name Funktaxi, with an EP and an LP (Mild) to his credit. ~ Sean Cooper, All Music Guide
