The Flood is typical modern psychedelic indie folk-rock. Like their more famous peers Animal Collective, the strangely named Wooden Wand & The Vanishing Voice focus primarily on raw atonal atmosphere, where instruments and voices meander and waver for the sake of mood rather than melody. "The Flood" presents pretty much the entire story. All the bandmembers sing the song in its entirety, with their voices overlapping but no pretense toward harmony. Guitars wail like scratched keyboards, as a musical structure akin to murky soap bubbles emerges over the course of 14 minutes. Read More
