Eric Dolphy's second session as a leader is one of his most intriguing. On this CD reissue, Dolphy is heard performing two songs apiece on alto, bass clarinet, and flute along with a rare appearance ("Eclipse") on clarinet. Joined by Ron Carter on cello, bassist George Duvivier, and drummer Roy Haynes, Dolphy's playing is quite explorative and the hypnotic and somewhat spooky "Out There" finds both Dolphy's bass clarinet and Carter's cello sounding as if they are talking. Read More
