Although trombonist Jimmy Cleveland is the main star of this album, arranger Ernie Wilkins comes in a close second. Wilkins' charts for the septet make inventive use of either Jay Mcallister or Don Butterfield on tuba and he also brought in two excellent originals (including one called "Goodbye Ebbets Field"). With trumpeter Art Farmer, tenor saxophonist Benny Golson, pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Eddie Jones and drummer Charlie Persip also featured with the septet, it is not surprising that the result is high-quality straightahead jazz.
