Pray for Japan - The Smart T.

Posted By: Ace Burpee · 3/17/2011 11:43:00 AM
With the help of Kevin and Erica at Tactica Interactive, we're proud to launch an innovative t-shirt in support of the Canadian Red Cross and its efforts to aid in the aftermath of the Japan Earthquake and Asia Pacific Tsunami.

The $20 PRAY FOR JAPAN t-shirt features a QR Code. Scanning the shirt with a smartphone (I use the ScanLife app on BB) will take you to the Canadian Red Cross’s mobile giving site, where you and your friends can make an online donation.

If you're wearing the shirt, you're a walking donation outlet.

Check out the photos too.  It's a who's who of people wearing the shirt and supporting the cause including Mayor Sam Katz, Ron Cantiveros, Nelly, the staffs at ACP Orthodontics, CDI College, Earls, and even Curtis Armstrong who played Booger in "Revenge of the Nerds".

We've also launched a special second PRAY FOR JAPAN design exclusively for kids. 10 year old, Grace Minsky, who is part of the Japanese community here in Winnipeg has designed a "Pray for Japan" special edition kids shirt.  You can find it on sale at Lux for Sprouts 1735 Corydon Ave.

Shirts are also available at Moksha Yoga (2 Donald Street & 1090 Waverley Street), Chic Nails (75 Goulet) and at HOT103 (3-177 Lombard Avenue).

THE NEED FOR SUPPORT:
On Friday March 11, 2011, an 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit Japan. This has triggered 4 metre waves in Japan and tsunami warnings across the Pacific coastline, including British Columbia. Hundreds of people are reported dead, and many more are injured or missing. The earthquake has caused fires and severe damage to buildings, leaving 4.4 million households without electricity. The Japanese Red Cross has deployed medical tents and 82 medical teams to the affected area. Volunteers are on the ground providing first aid and search and rescue operations.

Where are the tshirts available? I want to get everyone to buy one, so they are reminded that we need to pray for japan and all the families with loved ones there.

Hello, we believe that QR codes will make the connection between offline and online worlds easier. That’s why we created our QR code generator with social features – YouScan.me - http://www.youscan.me. You can add all your info like Facebook profile or fan page, twitter, youtube, etc. and connect with others. Cheers

Hi! I am Mrs. Lantin of Holy Cross School. My Student-tutors group would like to help Japan through your t-shirts. They will encourage the entire school and their families to buy the shirts. The families will order from us at bulk and we, as a group, will coordinate with you. We just need some information - are they in different sizes? prices? colours? Please let us know as soon as possible. Thanks!

You guys are doing such amazing stuff...1st Haiti and now this! As an IB student I am required to do special volunteer hours called CAS (creativity action service) and organize different fundraising event to help people and my friend and I thought that this would be an awesome way to help the people of Japan. How would we be able to sell them at our school location similar to the I <3 Haiti tees from last year? Could you please get back to me? Kudos!

Why praying? I get the donating.. and that is a good thing to do.. but praying is literally the least amount anyone can do. How about praying for the 30,000 children that die everyday from lack of basic human needs?

I do believe we should be helping Japan with donations and such, but I find it slightly offensive that the slogan is "Pray for Japan". I will donate money to the Red Cross effort but I WILL NOT PRAY for anyone, as I am not religious and I don't think it should be imposed on anyone.
